Shrimp Farms

A team of researchers have produced Afghanistan’s first-ever batch of licensed scorpion venom and are preparing to export the product to the US. One scorpion produces, at the most, just two milligrammes of venom at a time. According to the farm’s head Darwesh Haji, the facility has managed to extract 300-400 grammes so far. Scorpion venom is highly prized on the international market, and is amongst the most expensive liquids in the world. The venom contains various toxins, which can be used in medical research for cancer and malaria treatments

Shrimper Keepers, \r
\r
It is time for another Shrimp Saturday video. Today we are going to talk about my fail at acclimating new shrimp to an aquarium, why it is great to us RO water for freshwater shrimp, why it is important to remineralize the water, what products to use to remineralize the water and finally a trick to simplify the process of remineralizing RO water with a TDS pen. \r
\r
First, I messed up bad. I completely forgot to remineralize the water when I set up new tanks for some crystal red and crystal blacks I had in another tank. I acclimated them over 3 days so luckily it wasnt a huge shock on the shrimp although I already lost a handful of shrimp.\r
\r
Ro water is so important to what I do. In no way do shrimp need RO water to thrive. Although, RO water is great for shrimp because it eliminated or greatly reduce the risk of beria coming from tap water. City tap water ranges in parameters and what is living in it. This makes tap water and well water a rsiky option for shrimp keepers. \r
\r
Salty shrimp GH+ and Salty shrimp GH+/KH+ are the two product I use to remineralize RO water. Both have their own purposes as explained in the video. These are the two I would recommended to any shrimp keeper. \r
\r
Check out the end of the video for an easy method to remineralize RO water for shrimp and a way to know if your shrimp tank is ready for a water change. \r

Demonstrators in New York took part in a nationwide protest yesterday (June 10) calling for a boycott of Coca-Cola for its association with Fair Oaks Farms.

Coca-Cola is the distributor of the Fair-Life brand. An undercover investigation has exposed animal abuse at Fair Oak Farms, a supplier to Fair-Life.

In the undercover video, employees were seen abusing calves. This resulted in pain, injury and even their death.

Meanwhile, Fair Oak Farms is suspending its delivery service for a week to help with the implementation of new policies, training and to protect its drivers from harassment after the release of the video.

This tutorial is based on a set-up guide by Graham McDonnell, an admin of All Things Shrimp, a European-based Facebook group for sharing shrimp knowledge with over 10,000 members. (Ive added a few things and changed the order of one of the steps.)\r
\r
Graham McDonnell – All Things Shrimp\r
1. Add BW Minerax (Mineral Powder) liberally on the base.\r
2. Add BW Enlive (dormant beria).\r
3. Add BW Bebi (powdered food) – helps to mature substrate and will rapidly produce biofilm, an essential part of the shrimps diet.\r
4. Add substrate.\r
5. Fill with RO H2O mineralized with SS GH+ (or other remineralizer).\r
6. Set TDS to ~150 because it will drop about 120 ppm over the first week as soil matures\r
a. Aiming for 130 TDS, which gives a gH of 5\r
7. Add hardscape/décor, plants, and filter. (This was at the end, but Ive placed this before adding other things.)\r
8. Add minerock – helps with molting and keeping a constant supply of essential minerals that are very slowly released into tank.\r
9. Add 1 bee ball for every half gallon of H2O (or 2 bee balls for every gallon). 10 Gallon = 20 BB\r
a. Helps to purify water. Can last up to 2 years.\r
\r
From personal experience.\r
\r
Good hardscapes for shrimp tanks:\r
- driftwood\r
- spiderwood\r
- lava rock\r
- ohka stone\r
- ornamental decorations\r
\r
Preferred shrimp filtration: Sponge filter (single, dual, HMF, etc.)\r
- You CAN use any other types of filters as long as they are made shrimp-proof.\r
\r
Plants that do best with shrimp:\r
- mosses\r
- anubias\r
- floaters (help with nitrates)\r
\r
**You DO NOT need ALL of the products listed in the video. That is just how I followed this set-up process. The MUST-HAVES are listed below, so if you are on a budget, these are the only things you really need to purchase.\r
\r
Shrimp Essentials:\r
- substrate\r
- shrimp-proof filter\r
- leaf litter (Indian Almond Leaves/Catappa Leaves, Mulberry Leaves, Banana Leaves, Amaranth Leaves, etc.)\r
\r
Highly Recommended (You dont have to buy these, but shrimp do best with these in the environment):\r
- any type of aquatic moss\r
- cholla wood\r
- alder cones\r
\r
Completely Optional (You really dont need these, but it may take longer for your tank to cycle/mature if you dont have some of them):\r
- Borneo Wild products\r
- mineral rock\r
- bee balls\r
- hardscape/decor\r
- plants
