Old Recipe for Sweet & Sour Shrimp

Here is a very easy to make recipe for Sweet and Sour Shrimp. The Sweet and Sour sauce comes from an old cookbook that was published back in 1961 by Amy Vanderbilt. Watch the video as I describe the story behind me making this excellent dish, and show you just how to do it!\r
Shrimp 2 Pound, peeled and deveined\r
Crushed pineapple 8 Ounce\r
Cider vinegar 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)\r
White sugar 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)\r
Pimento 1⁄4 Cup (4 tbs), chopped\r
Bell pepper 1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs), chopped\r
Garlic clove 1 1⁄2 , chopped\r
Soy sauce 2 Tablespoon\r
Water 1⁄4 Cup (4 tbs)\r
Hot sauce 1⁄2 Teaspoon\r
Corn starch 2 Tablespoon, mixed with 1/4th cup water\r
Self rising flour 2 Cup (32 tbs)\r
Salt To Taste\r
Black pepper To Taste\r
Cayenne pepper To Taste (Optional)\r
Granulated garlic To Taste\r
Oil 2 Cup (32 tbs) (For deep frying)\r
1. For the sauce: in a pan, add the crushed pineapple, cider vinegar, sugar, pimentos, bell pepper, garlic, soy sauce, water and hot sauce. Allow to cook on medium heat and simmer for about 5 minutes. \r
2. Gradually stir in the cornstarch to thicken the sauce. Keep the sauce on low heat, to keep it warm. \r
3. For the dredging flour: in a bowl, combine all the ingredients for the dredging flour and mix well. \r
4. For the shrimp: dredge the shrimp in the seasoned flour and then dip it in a bowl of water. Dredge it once again in the flour. Repeat with all the shrimps. \r
5. In a frying pan, heat the oil and carefully drop the shrimp in to deep fry until golden. Remove on paper towels. \r
6. Serve on a platter accompanied with the sweet and sour sauce.\r
