This is a great side dish especially with wantan noodles.\r
Wontons or dumplings are not only well known among the asians but also the westerners too. I personally love this soup version especially after a long haul flight as it somehow gives me a comforting feeling. \r
In this recipe, I opted for wantan wrap bought from the store. Preparation of this dish is pretty simple. However, wrapping wantans can be pretty tricky as water is used to seal the wrap. Too much water might cause the wrap to tear. \r
If you do not like wantans in soup, you can opt to have them fried instead. Serve with some sweet chilli sauce. You will love its crispiness. Have fun wrapping these delicious dumplings. This recipe yields around 14 – 16 pieces of wantans.\r

Learn how to make Prawns Kalvan at home with Chef Smita Deo on Get Curried.

Prawns Kalvan is an authentic Prawn curry recipe made of grated coconut, dry Indian spices and shrimp. This seafood recipe tastes amazing when paired with steam rice. Do try it at home and share your feedback in the comments below.

1 Onion
½ Cinnamon stick
10 Peppercorns
5 Cloves
½ tsp Fennel seeds
2 tbsps Oil
3 Green Chillies
1 inch Ginger, sliced
4-5 Garlic cloves
1 cup Coconut, grated
2-3 tbsps Coriander leaves, chopped
3 tbsp Oil
1 Small Onion, finely chopped
½ Kg Prawns, shelled & deveined
½ tsp Turmeric powder
Salt to taste
1 Tomato, finely chopped
1 tsp Chilli powder
1 tsp Garam Masala powder
1 ltr Water

Method of preparation:
Heat a vessel, add onions and saute them till they are golden.
Add cinnamon, peppercorns, cloves, fennel seeds, oil, green chillies, ginger, garlic and saute them.
Add coconut and fry it.
Switch of the flames, add coriander leaves, mix them well, coo it down and then grind it into a paste.
Heat oil in a vessel.
Add turmeric powder to the prawns, salt, mix well and keep it aside.
To the hot oil add onions, saute it till its soft.
Add tomato, saute it till it turns soft & mushy.
Add chilli powder, reduce the flame and add the prawns.
Add garam masala powder, mix well and saute the prawns for a minute or so.
Add the ground paste, water and let the prawsn cook for 4-5 minutes.
Our Prawns Kalvan is ready.

2 tbsp olive oil
1 orange, thinly sliced
2 tomatoes,thinly sliced
2 cloves of garlic, peeled and thinly sliced
2 sprigs of fresh thyme
1 small red chilli, seeds removed and thinly sliced
3 cardamom pods,crushed to reveal the black seeds
12-14 large prawns (about 200g once peeled)
sea salt
freshly ground black pepper
3-5 tbsp water

Heat the oil in a frying pan over a high heat until it just starts to smoke. Carefully place the orange slices in the oil and cook for 30 seconds, then turn them over with a fork. Add the tomato, garlic, thyme, chilli and cardamom and cook on a high heat until the tomato slices start to break down a little (about 2 minutes). Add the prawns to the pan and season with sea salt and pepper. Cook them for a minute on each side. Add 3 tablespoons of water and cook for a further 2 minutes or until the prawns have turned pink. If the pan is looking dry, add the remaining 2 tablespoons of water, so that you have enough liquid to form a sauce.

Serve immediately with bread to mop up the juices. Alternatively munch all the prawns by yourself in the kitchen.
