Original video by Drake Josh. This is a V2 because I fixed the original version I made. Not because there’s no Nick logo, but because the audio is a little better than the other one I made that had the Nick logo.

Thanks to Drake Josh for helping me record the logoless footage.

Both main shrimp harvesting practices can be pretty brutal to the environment and the things that live around the designated catch.

Given the way that shrimp is cleaned up and neatly packaged, it’s easy to make oneself believe that the task of growing and catching it is just as tidy.

According to some reports however, it isn’t, and farming and harvesting practices can be pretty brutal to the environment and the things that live around the designated catch.

Shrimp is both caught and farmed, but neither method seems to offer any significant ecological advantage over the other.

Out on the open waters, a lot more than shrimp is caught up when fishermen cast their trawling nets.

For each pound of shrimp caught, the collateral damage often includes around 5 pounds of sharks and endangered sea turtles, among many others.

While the shrimp trawling industry represents only 2 percent of fishermen, it causes about a third of all bycatch related deaths.

Shrimp farming doesn’t have that particular problem, but they have enough other ones.

Among the biggest is the toll the practice takes on the land it uses.

According to reports, shrimp ponds are only operable for about 10 years. For the following 40 they remain unusable.

Some estimates say almost 40 percent of the world’s mangrove forests have been cleared for the purpose of growing shrimp.
